Jbl charge 3 vs Bose soundlink mini ii. How do they compare?

Design

The charge 3 is a cylinder-shaped speaker that is bulky and large that weighs about 1.76 pounds and measures 213 x 87 x 88.5 mm which will take a bit of room in your bag. On the other hand, the soundlink mini ii is light only weighing at 1.5 pounds and measuring 51 x 180 x 58 mm. you can easily hold it in your hand and it can easily fit in a small bag.

Sound quality

The charge 3 may be a great speaker with good bass performance, but it’s not so smoothly balanced and it struggles a bit on the mid-highs that get a bit muffled maybe because of the waterproof fabric. As for the soundlink mini ii, it has an evenness and warmth in its sound with smoother trebles, silkier mids, and the deepest bass from such a small speaker.

Pairing

It’s very easy to pair two devices with the charge 3 speaker with the help of the JBL connect button to deliver a better stereo sound, but the soundlink mini ii, unfortunately, doesn’t have the capability of pairing two devices at the same time.

Charge 3 is a well-designed fully waterproof Bluetooth speaker that you can carry anywhere even to your backyard pool party without worrying about water accidents. It’s a cylindrical speaker that is a bit bulky and larger than other Bluetooth models which will weigh a bit when carrying, but it has a great audio performance. It’s also IPX7 certified to be fully water-resistant which means it can withstand being submerged into water that is a meter deep for about 30 minutes and still function normally. The sound is delivered by 50mm, 10-watt drivers through the speaker grille while the passive bass radiators at both ends provide the bass response. The speaker has a rubber base that helps to keep it securely in place. At the top, you’ll find a familiar set of buttons that are in all JBL speakers. There is a JBL connect button that you can use to pair with two other speakers with one sound source and a playback button that is also the call management button and also tap it twice to skip forward a track. The speaker doesn’t have a backward track button. At the back is the USB port for charging your mobile devices, micro-USB input for charging the speaker, and aux 3.5mm input hidden under a secure rubber flap. The charge’s 3 battery life is about 20 hours but this will vary depending on if you’re charging your phone and the volume levels.

Charge 3 is a huge speaker that translates to a big sound. When the speaker is cranked up it can easily fill a large room, but to get the best bass response you should place it on a flat surface that will resonate some of the sounds. It can handle different genres of music quite impressively without distortion. However, the mid-high may sound a little muddled which could be due to the waterproof construction of the speaker, but the vocals and instruments still have great detail. Although the speaker can get pretty loud, the highs don’t become harsh even when its indoors. It also has a built-in mic that you can use as a speakerphone to make calls.

Pros

  • It’s fully waterproof
  • It can give you 20 hours of playback time
  • Has an impressive bass performance
  • Its sound is crisp and clear on most types of music

Cons

  • It’s a bit heavy to carry
  • Doesn’t have the backward control button

Bose soundlink mini ii

This is a small, sleek, and compact Bluetooth speaker with an aluminum enclosure and a charging cradle you can leave plugged in. Although soundlink mini ii is a small speaker it doesn’t compromise on sound. It’s small enough that you can hold in your hand which makes it portable and has a tough aluminum outer shell and a charging dock instead of using a charging cable which is also an option. The speaker controls are at the top that includes the power, volume pairing, and multi-function button for changing tracks and activating voice assistants. It also has an in-built mic for taking calls. On the left side are a micro-USB port for charging and an aux 3.5mm. However, the speaker doesn’t have NFC that makes it easy to pair, but there is a voice system that lets you know the battery life left and the connected devices. You can pair two devices at once but can only play from one at a time. Soundlink mini ii has a battery life of about 8-10 hours but this will depend on your volume levels. It’s small enough to carry in your bag but be careful when you take it to the beach because it’s not waterproof.

This tiny speaker maintains a lovely balanced sound with an amazing quality bass even on the heavy songs without distortion even at high volumes. It delivers a well-textured and smooth tone with a decent midrange and full, natural vocals without being softened by too much mid-bass. When it comes to sound quality with deeper bass, smoother treble, and silkier mids, the soundlink mini ii is the best. The best part about this tiny speaker is its ability to sound great at any volume. It’s able to produce the same bass impact and depth at a low volume which doesn’t happen in most speakers this size. You can also adjust the volume to exactly how loud you want your music to be with no hiss at low volumes.

Pros

  • A small, sleek, and compact speaker
  • Smooth and decent sound at any volume level
  • It has a decent battery life
  • Light and easy to carry
